πŸ” Your Data, Your Control

How We Handle Your Data

We don't. And that's the point.

PhotoScoop is a desktop application that runs entirely on your local machine. Here's what that means for your privacy:

  • No Cloud Storage: Your photos are downloaded directly from Facebook to your computer. They never pass through our servers because we don't have any servers.
  • No Data Collection: We don't collect, store, or have access to your photos, Facebook data, or personal information.
  • No Tracking: No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking of any kind. What you do with this app stays on your machine.
  • Local Authentication: Your Facebook access token is stored locally using secure operating system storage. We never see it.
  • Open Source: The entire application code is open source and auditable. You can verify exactly what the app does.

What Permissions Do We Need?

When you connect your Facebook account, we request these permissions:

  • public_profile: Basic profile information (name, profile picture)
  • email: Your email address (used for display purposes only)
  • user_posts: Access to read your posts and photos

These permissions allow the app to fetch your photos from Facebook. The app runs locally on your machine and only communicates directly with Facebook's API.

What Data Stays on Your Computer?

The only data stored is:

  • Your Facebook access token (stored securely in your OS keychain/credential manager)
  • Export progress state (so you can resume interrupted exports)
  • Your app settings (save directory, path template preferences)
  • The photos you download (saved to your chosen location)

All of this data lives only on your machine and can be deleted at any time.

πŸ—‘οΈ Data Deletion Request

How to Delete Your Data

Since this is a desktop application, all your data is already on your computerβ€”not ours.

Because PhotoScoop is a local desktop application, we never receive, store, or have access to your data. Everything stays on your machine.

To completely remove all app data:

  1. Revoke App Permissions on Facebook:
    • Go to Facebook Settings β†’ Apps and Websites
    • Find "PhotoScoop"
    • Click "Remove" to revoke all permissions
    • This immediately invalidates any access tokens
  2. Delete Downloaded Photos:
    • Navigate to the folder where you chose to save your photos
    • Delete the folder and all its contents
  3. Remove App Data:
    • Windows: Uninstall the app through "Add or Remove Programs" and delete %APPDATA%\com.photo-scoop.app
    • macOS: Move the app to Trash and delete ~/Library/Application Support/com.photo-scoop.app
    • Linux: Remove the app and delete ~/.config/photo-scoop

Note: Since we don't have servers or databases, there's nothing for us to delete on our end. All app data exists only on your device.

What Happens When You Revoke Access?

When you revoke the app's permissions on Facebook:

  • The app can no longer access your Facebook data
  • Any stored access tokens become invalid immediately
  • The app will require re-authentication if you want to use it again
  • Your previously downloaded photos remain on your computer until you delete them

Need Help?

If you have questions about data deletion or privacy:

Remember: We cannot delete data we never had access to. This is a feature, not a limitation!
